Why Crop an Image Online?
Cropping keeps the part of an image inside a selected area and removes the pixels around it. It does not stretch the full picture to a new shape, so check that the selection includes everything you need.
Check the destination's shape and size requirements first. For a square, use equal width and height or select Center square. For a 16:9 crop, enter dimensions in that ratio. Leave enough room around the subject if another service may crop the image again.
- Frame a profile picture.
- Prepare an image for a social post or website.
- Remove blank margins from a document screenshot.
- Center a product in its photo.

Adjust the Crop Size and Position
Fine-tune the crop by changing its size and where it starts. Left and top are measured from the source image's left and top edges; width and height set how far the crop extends. Enter each value in pixels, then check the preview.
For example, on a 1600 by 1200 image, a crop beginning 200 pixels from the left and 100 pixels from the top with a width of 1000 and a height of 800 stays within the source. It removes different margins from each side. Check the preview rather than relying on arithmetic alone, especially when the important subject sits close to the edge of the crop area.
| Crop value | Meaning | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal position | Pixels from the source left edge | Treating it as the center of the selection |
| Vertical position | Pixels from the source top edge | Counting from the bottom instead |
| Width | The width of the crop in source pixels | Extending beyond the right edge |
| Height | The height of the selected area | Removing a required line near the bottom |
How to Crop an Image Online
Inspect all four edges of the crop area, not only the center: a valid crop can still cut off hands, labels, punctuation, or part of a product.
A preview may be scaled to fit the screen, so the displayed size is not necessarily the output pixel size. Use the entered crop dimensions for the actual area and inspect the downloaded image for detail. Crop an image from its original version when trying another composition. A previously cropped copy no longer contains the removed margins, which limits later adjustments.
- Upload a JPG, JPEG, PNG, or WebP image.
- Enter the left and top positions, followed by the width and height of the crop area.
- Check that the crop area stays within the original image and includes every needed detail.
- Move the starting position or increase the width of the crop if a subject is too close to an edge.
- Select Crop images, then inspect the downloaded image at its actual size.
Convert an iPhone HEIC photo before cropping
iPhone photos may be saved as HEIC, which this crop tool does not accept. Convert the photo to JPG first, then choose the JPG here. Keep the HEIC original if you may want to crop it differently later.

A square crop and a smaller image are different tasks
Set equal width and height for a square crop area. A rectangle needs different values. Choosing that shape removes content outside the selection; it does not preserve the entire original composition.
If the full composition is already correct and only the dimensions are too large, use the image resizer instead. If a destination requires both a shape and smaller dimensions, crop first and resize afterward. For example, select a square portion of a portrait and then reduce that square to the destination size. Avoid resizing a rectangular image into a square by stretching it.
Crop Multiple Images with the Same Settings
Batch cropping works best when the images share dimensions and a consistent layout, such as screenshots with the same margins. The same crop area can remove the same border from each image. Download completed results separately or together as a ZIP. Review the group before using it, because one screenshot may contain a label or button in a different place.
For a mixed set of portraits and landscapes, one crop area is unlikely to suit every composition. Check each source and process different groups separately where necessary. A selection must remain within the source boundaries, and a valid selection is not automatically a good composition. The width of the crop may fit several files while cutting away the subject in one of them.
Cropping is not a complete privacy check
Crop an image to remove unwanted visible areas, but inspect the content left inside the crop too. A reflection, document heading, or background sign may still reveal information. Cropping does not guarantee that hidden photo details, such as location or camera information, are removed. If that information matters before sharing, use the metadata removal tool and check the final copy separately.
The image cropper processes files in your browser without uploading them. Save the cropped image as a separate copy and retain the original when you might need another composition. For content that must be permanently excluded from a shared file, send only the reviewed result, not the original or a ZIP that accidentally contains both versions.
Crop image: questions and answers
Does cropping resize the whole image?
No. Cropping keeps a selected area and removes the surrounding content from the result. Use resizing to make the entire composition smaller while retaining its proportions.
Can I crop an image into a square?
Yes. Set the width of the crop and its height to the same number, then position the crop area over the content you want to keep. Check the preview before downloading.
Why does my crop area fail?
Check that the position, width, and height define a positive area inside the source image. A starting position plus the selected dimensions must not extend past the image boundaries.
Can I recover the removed edges from the cropped image?
No. Keep the original if you may need the edges later. Start a different crop from that original rather than from a previously cropped download.
Can I crop HEIC photos from an iPhone?
Not directly. This tool accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Convert the HEIC photo to JPG first, then crop the JPG here.
Can I crop a WebP image?
Yes. Upload a still WebP image and set the area you want to keep. Animated WebP files are not supported.
What size should I crop my image to?
Use the size required by the destination. Square crops are common for profile pictures; a 16:9 crop may suit a banner or video thumbnail. Enter matching pixel dimensions and check the result. This tool does not include aspect-ratio presets.
Can I crop an image without losing quality?
Cropping removes pixels outside the selected area, but saving can apply new compression to the image. JPG and WebP compression may affect fine detail, so inspect the downloaded copy before replacing the original.
